In1965,BobCrane,whohadachievedsomeearliersuccessasatelevisionsupportingactor,wasworkingasasuccessfulmorningradioDJatKNXLosAngeles.Despiteenjoyinghiswork,photography(especiallyofthefemaleform)anddrumming,Cranewantedtobeamoviestar.SoitwaswithsomereluctancethatheacceptedthetitlestarringroleinanewtelevisionsitcomcalledHogan'sHeroes(1965),aWWIIPOWcomedy.Tohissurprise,theshowbecameahitandcatapultedhimtotelevisionstardom.ThefameresultingfromtheshowledtoexcessesandameetingwithhomevideosalesmanandtechnicianJohnCarpenter,withwhohewouldformafriendshipbasedontheirmutualinterests,namelyexcessivesex(forCrane,purelyheterosexualsex)andcapturingnudefemalesoncelluloid.HisfameallowedCranetohaveasmuchsexashewanted,whichwasincongruenttohissomewhatwholesometelevisionfriendlyimage,andthewayheportrayedhimselftoalmosteveryoneexceptCarpenterandhis...
